Operation Hydration KFC has joined up with the Mayor of Phoenix office to help collect water for people in need.

Water is one of the Valley's most valued resources. We tend to forget how important it is to everyday life here in the valley and also for those less fortunate/homeless that are vulnerable to the summer heat, it's a life necessity. With the scorching temperatures expected to soar through September, nearly 8,000 homeless individuals are at risk for heat related illnesses and potentially death. With shade and water as the best prevention for heat related illness such as heat strokes, heat exhaustion and heat cramps, KFC has taken action this year to collect water and money for individuals at risk. Over 130,000 bottles were collected last year, this year the city is hoping to collect over 200,000 bottles with your help. Everyone is encouraged to drop off cases of bottled water or donate money to alleviate heat related illnesses and prevent potentially life-threatening situations among the homeless and others in need.

"We're once again appealing to the community at large to help us collect bottled and canned water for distribution to people who need it most," says Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon.

The city is hoping to avoid heat related deaths like those that happened summers prior.

KFC will be collecting money and water through September 5th, 2008.

To donate water to KFC in the valley (Phoenix & surronding areas), please Email. We can pick up the water when we or some one listed below are in the area. If you are out of the area, you can still help by donating money to buy water.

Donate money here. All funds collected will be used to purchase bottled water and be brought to the centers in need of water.

We are asking for any size bottle of water through 1 gallon size, non-milk jug style. The water can be individual bottles or cases, any and all will be excepted that are factory sealed, please no refilled bottles or energy drinks.

Tips to Keep Cool and Healthy During Times of Extreme Heat

Even healthy people should take it easy during extremely high temperatures, and those with respiratory and other health problems must be especially careful. Stay out of the sun as much as possible. When temperatures reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit, even with a window partially open, the temperature inside a car can reach 138 degrees in five minutes and up to 150 degrees in 15 minutes. In these conditions, children can die very quickly - in a matter of minutes. Infants and small children are particularly vulnerable due to their body configurations. The younger the child, the faster the onset of heatstroke and dehydration.
